Abstract

“Focus: Technology” piece on PenBay Solutions of Topsham, a company that has developed a geographic information tool to map what is inside buildings. The company’s GIS software helped New York City’s fire department identify evacuation routes and sheltering locations in tens of thousands of floor plans. PenBay’s InVision suite of GIS software is also being used by several universities, the Los Angeles public school system and the Veterans Administration. Bill Barron and Stuart Rich, principals of the firm, explain how their got started in the facilities management software field and talk about their partnership with California-based Esri, the world’s leading GIS software company.
