“Focus: Midcoast/ Down East” piece on Monhegan Island, which is facing challenges such as an aging population, declining school enrollment, and limited employment opportunities, with creativity and resourcefulness. Farm and garden projects, the opening of a grocery store, and the creation of a microbrewery are among the initiatives that are helping to sustain a year-round community. Includes a sidebar profile of Ben Algeo, an Island Institute fellow who is working with island residents on energy efficiency.
