Abstract
The author reports that studies have shown establishing a positive safely culture in a business saves money by decreasing lost workdays and lowering production costs and insurance rates. It also raises employee morale, engagement and retention. SafetyWorks, a division of the Maine Department of Labor, works with companies by performing on-site safety inspections and works with the company to achieve the Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) compliance criteria. Maine Employers for Safety and Health Excellence (MESHE) a volunteer nonprofit, brings safety culture training and mentoring to Maine companies. A combination of using the resources of both organizations helps achieve safety compliance, but also helps create a workplace that diminishes every risks.
