Abstract
A new life sciences collaborative, the Life Sciences Group, plans to boost the state’s biotechnology business acumen and national status, as well as try to attract outside investment and entrepreneurial thinkers to Maine. The organization currently comprises four members, MDI Biological Laboratory in Salisbury Cover, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay, the Foundation for Blood Research in Scarborough, and Kennebec River Biosciences in Richmond. Each of these nonprofits is already incubating startups and independent researchers, which potentially could form partnerships with each other or with other LSG members. The Life Sciences Group mission is to “to improve the well-being and economic welfare of Maine's citizens through the modernization and expansion of the state's science and technology economy."
