Abstract

Two teams of graduating mechanical engineering students from the University of Maine each built a prototype autonomous boat in order to help solve a real world problem; that is, creating a boat that would be able to retrieve a data recorder from a sonar buoy that generates sufficient data to require the data recorder to be retrieved every two weeks. While not entirely successful, the prototype boats demonstrated the students solid skills that will enable them in their engineering careers.
