Abstract

While Maine's pulp and paper industry has seen significant downturns in the last year, three pieces of good news were shared at the Maine Pulp & Paper Association summit on November 17, 2015. Challenges and opportunities, including the fact that Maine costs are higher across the board than competing pulp and paper states and the logger's perspective, are included. George Gervais, commissioner of the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development concludes Maine needs to lower taxes, energy cost and wood costs in order to for the industry in Maine to stay competitive.
