Abstract

The lobster industry has seen revenues decline thanks to tariffs and the international trade war. Lobster wholesalers and suppliers in the state are opening processing sites to be able to focus more on the domestic market. Includes in-depth look at three of these sites: Hugh Reynolds' Stonington-based Greenhead Lobster which opened a 15,000-square foot processing facility in Bucksport; Ready Seafood in Saco, which will create about 50 new full-time positions and will collaborate with local universities to study lobsters and the industry; and Luke's Lobster, which opened a production facility in Saco in order to have more control over the supply to its restaurants.
