Abstract
An estimated 10% to 15% of Aroostook County's residents have transportation challenges, impacting their choice of work and medical care. The working poor, the elderly, and young families with only one vehicle are among the people most impacted. When people can't get to their jobs, their place of employment also suffers. Aroostook County Action Program's workforce development program is trying to patch together solutions, from carpools and the Aroostook Regional Transportation System, to starting conversations with business owners about employee shuttles and working on an initiative called Working Cars for Working Families.
