Abstract

An in-depth look at Forager, an app that directly connects farmers and other food producers to stores. David Stone launched the app in 2017, but the pandemic brought increased attention to the local food movement and caused a growth in demand. Forager's buyers include the Portland Food Co-op, the Rosemont Market and Bakery chain, MaineHealth, and UMaine Orono. Stone saw how food distribution works in other places around the world and saw an opportunity to change America's industrialized system.
