Abstract
A flurry of new home construction and remodeling activity is pumping money into the economy. Maine's continuing hot housing market has meant that some people, like Betsy St.Pierre, have opted to buy land on which to build. From large scale projects like the Downs in Scarborough to individuals interested in aging-in-place remodels, the activity is driven by historically low interest rates and high demand. With a sidebar about Maya Bogh of Great Northern Builders in South Berwick and the demand for home revamps, and another one about the impact of the boom on two Maine lumber suppliers -- Hancock Lumber and Hammond Lumber Co.
