Abstract

A look at several small manufacturers in the state. Chris Korzen and Bethany Field, co-owners of Maine Flag Co. do all of their work in-state (although they do have to get some of their textiles from out of state). They have built their company of the appeal that Maine has as a brand. Maine Crisp Co. is another growing Maine business that parlays the Maine brand into business success. Steve and Karen Getz use Maine ingredients like blueberries and buckwheat. Gifford's Famous Ice Cream factory of Skowhegan has been around since the 1970s, but CEO Lindsay Skilling says that often people are unaware the company is a Maine business. They are launching a rebrand to highlight this fact. Another Maine company that sees value in the "made in Maine" element is Maine Stitching Specialties of Skowhegan. Bill and Julie Swain's company makes hotel drapes, hospital cubicle curtains, flags, and anything else a customer may want.
