Abstract

A discussion about the future of working waterfronts in Maine. Using properties in Rockland, Yarmouth, and Portland as examples, describes the need for waterfront property dedicated to marine-based businesses such as fishing, boatbuilding, and marinas. Also describes the threats to working waterfronts, from the effects of climate change to the growing trend of building restaurants, hotels, and other non-marine businesses on waterfront property.
