Abstract
A discussion of the redevelopment of the former Mercy Hospital campus on State Street in Portland into a mixed residential/commercial complex called the Nightingale. Describes the challenges of the renovations, including repurposing the hospital's underground levels, and the preservation of historic architectural features unearthed during demolition. Notes the variety of tenants expected to take advantage of the site, and the efforts made to integrate the new facility into the neighborhood.
