Abstract

David Jean, director of Altus Exit Strategies LLC, in Portland observed, "The more families run their businesses like a business, the better they fare. If you have an owner that can't take more than a week off, that's not a business; that's a job."
The article spotlights Waterville's Elm City Photo, the second-generation business owned by John and Celine Goodine. They hope to retire and sell the business to a new owner that will continue the photofinishing operation. The article also describes the sale of the H.A. Mapes heating-oil delivery business (to Nouria Energy Retail in 2023). Mapes was founded in 1936.
