Abstract

The Portland City Council has approved the Portland Public Library's plan to buy the former public market building and renovate it for use as its main branch. The library's plan will be put before the voters on June 12. Total cost of the purchase and renovation will be about $9.6 million. If voters reject the library's proposal, the library will move ahead with existing plans to renovate its present building on Congress Street. With details of the plans for renovating the public market.
