Abstract

"Art" piece previewing the 400-plus black-and-white photos in an exhibit of works by Sebastiao Salgado. Salgado, whose subjects are migrants and refugees, spent six years photographing major human migrations and their aftermaths in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America. The exhibition is too big for the sponsoring Portland Museum of Art's temporary exhibition space, causing the show to be apportioned among six venues. The show begins today and runs through March 23. The venues include the Portland Museum of Art, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Portland, The Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport, the University of Southern Maine Art Gallery in Gorham, the Art Gallery of the University of New England in Portland and the University of Maine Museum of Art in Bangor.
