Abstract

"this just in" piece on the lawsuit brought against the city of Augusta over certain elements of its mass gathering ordinance. The Coalition Against the War, which is filing the suit, paid a $1,156 permit fee after Robert Gregoire, deputy police chief, determined that eight officers would be necessary for crowd and traffic control during an April 19 antiwar march. The coalition claims that the ordinance violates the groups's First-Amendment right to peaceably assemble and its Fourth-Amendment right against unreasonable searches and seizures.
