Abstract
A growing number of men in Maine, both gay and straight, are succumbing to the pressures of a visual culture where a premium is put on body appearance. The emphasis on physical image has resulted in an insurgence of plastic surgery, beauty products and high fashion for men. For the most part, media images are responsible for convincing men that not only is it okay to care for your appearance, but that it is actually mandated by society. Details.
