Abstract

"this just in" piece on two local unsolved art thefts in the last four weeks. On June 14, a bas-relief sculpture by Eliot artist Christopher Gowell was taken form the Maine Sculptors 2003 exhibition at the Portland Public Library. Michelle Zichella, director of programming and development, is hoping the sculpture will find its way back home. On July 11, a painting by Portland artist Jessica Gandolf was stolen from the Aucocisco Galleries at the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland. Andy Verzosa, galleries director, said the painting was a portrait of famous black heavy-weight boxer Jack Johnson.
