Abstract

"this just in" piece reporting that a solar-energy workshop will be held Sept. 13 at the home of Dr. Judith Schmidt in Washington, Maine. Schmidt designed and helped build her off-grid solar home in 1993 after attending classes at the Shelter Institute in Bath (now in Woolwich). Schmidt notes that workshop facilitator Dr. Richard Komp, of the Maine Solar Energy Association, has helped many people retrofit their homes, or install hybrid systems that rely only partially on the existing power grid.
