Abstract

Article questioning the security and reliability of electronic voting machines and their software. A new federal law, the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002, provides one-time funding to help states modernize their voting equipment and improve accessibility. In Maine, an advisory committee has filed a HAVA-compliance proposal that calls for the state to purchase at least one direct-recording electronic device for each of the 627 voting precincts in the state.
