Abstract

"Politics and Other Mistakes" piece opposing Roxanne Quimby's plan to create a 3.2-million-acre national park surrounding Baxter State Park, and suggesting that the state should buy a few key parcels of land that would create a buffer zone around Baxter that would both protect it from encroaching development and preserve most current uses of the property. Quimby is the co-founder of Burt's Bees personal-care products and the owner of 40,000 acres of northern Maine woods.
