Abstract
"Cover Story" piece on the Munjoy Hill Neighborhood Organization (MHNO) and its reaction to a project proposed by Silver Street Development Corp. The development, which would have 16 townhouses and a 56-unit apartment building, has approval from the city and $400,000 in federal subsidies. But the MHNO board and the neighborhood itself are split on whether the project is good for the neighborhood. Luke MacFadyen, president of MHNO, says the neighborhood needs more family housing. Opponents say the suggested rents for the units are above market value and will drive property taxes up. Cynthia Fitzgerald is the only charter member of the 21-year-old MHNO still serving on the group's board, and she says that in 20 years, this is only the second heated debate the group has had.
