Abstract
"Focus on Western Maine" piece on Jim Wilfong of Stow, a small-business advocate who is proposing to tax purveyors of bottled water, who package and sell half a billion gallons of Maine groundwater each year. Wilfong has submitted a citizens' initiative that would charge the companies 20 cents per gallon of water taken from the state's water supply. Jane Lazgin, a spokesperson for Nestle Waters North America, which owns the Poland Spring name, says the tax would jeopardize the company's 572 employees in the state.
