Abstract
"the beat report" piece on the local "battle of the bands," which was recently held at the Asylum in Portland. All of the 45 competing bands, including Riot Act, which won the competition, say the only real winners were the out-of-state independent promoters, Chris Viarella and Mark Gianelli. Each of the bands had to sell 100 tickets at $5 each, or come up with $500, to compete.
