Abstract

"this just in" piece reporting that former Portland Press Herald reporter Ted Cohen has received $54,000 from the paper to settle a grievance over his termination. Cohen, a reporter at the Press Herald since 1975, unearthed the story of George W. Bush's 1976 drunk-driving arrest in the summer before the 2000 presidential election. The paper's editors did not run the story, and Cohen's work environment turned hostile. He left the paper in 2004 and filed a successful claim with the Maine labor-relations board. The Portland Newspaper Guild filed a grievance on Cohen's behalf, which the Press Herald settled last week.
