Abstract

"this just in" piece on LD 1481, which would protect development projects earlier in the planning process from retroactive citizens referenda than is currently allowed under state law. Sen. Lynn Bromley, D-Cumberland County, sponsored the bill in part to avoid problems like the failed Dunstan Crossing project in Scarborough, which was overturned in 2003 by a citizens' referendum. The Maine People's Alliance, which advocates for citizen involvement in government decision-making, opposes the bill.
