Abstract

"This Just In" piece on pending changes in Portland's Old Port district, noting that the area's reputation for rowdy nightlife might be changing. This month the Portland City Council voted to restrict the number of new bars in the area. New projects slated for the area include the Ocean Gateway terminal and the Westin Hotel. With comments by Will Gorham, city councilor; Richard Barringer, research professor at the Muskie School of Public Service in Portland; Justin Alfond, Maine state director of the League of Young Voters; and Steve Baumann, an Old Port property developer.
