Abstract

"This Just In" piece reporting that organizers and participants in Portland's Veterans Day parade may not allow Maine Veterans for Peace (MVFP) to march in this year's parade in objection to the group's anti-war politics. Chester Morris, parade chairman, and Bob Wright, chairman of the Harold T. Andrews Post of the American Legion, sent MVFP a letter saying other veteran units have said they will not participate if MVFP is in the lineup. Doug Rawlings, president of the MVFP, believes the group is being excluded because of its anti-war politics. In July, MVFP bought a flag in memory of an Iraqi infant, under the Adopt-a-Flag program jointly run by the city government, the Portland Downtown District merchants' group, and the Andrews Post.
