Abstract
"This Just In" piece on a promised bill to force codes of ethics on quasi-governmental state agencies. The need for such codes came to light when the public learned of a $1,342 restaurant dinner a Maine Turnpike Authority consultant bought for five authority officials and three other consultants last June. Since then the Maine Turnpike Authority has adopted an ethics code. The Maine Freedom of Information Coalition released a study last month reporting that only 45 percent of the independent agencies said they had an ethics code as of the end of 2006.
