"This Just In" piece on a private meeting between Governor John Baldacci and Iva
"This Just In" piece on a private meeting between Governor John Baldacci and Ivan Seidenberg, president and CEO of Verizon. The meeting came just days after the staff of the Public Utilities Commission recommended that regulators reject the proposed buyout of Verizon's telephone landlines by FairPoint Communications. Though the meeting wasn't publicized, a Verizon spokesperson says the meeting was intended to discuss Verizon's role in the state in the future, specifically the fact that Verizon is going to be continuing to invest in businesses in the state. Dick Thompson, state technology chief, said that Verizon earns about $6 million from providing state agencies with telephone services.
