Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on Portland's housing market and the city's upcoming decision on the direction to take with the former St. Dominic's church, which is now city-owned. On Sept. 11, the Portland City Council's Housing Committee will choose between two plans for the former Roman Catholic church. The first has been proposed by a group of nonprofits led by Portland West and the People's Regional Opportunity Program (PROP), which would turn the former girls' school behind the church into 14 apartments, and the other by Barba Architecture and Preservation, a private firm in Portland, which would rent or sell space to private business interests. With details about the two plans.
