Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on a series of lectures delivered by the celebrated Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung to a crowd of over a hundred on Bailey's Island in 1936. One of the participants, a New Yorker named Mildred Harris, later founded and endowed the C.G. Jung Center in Brunswick, though the center's operations didn't start until 1989, just before her death. Harris retired from New York City to practice psychology and to teach yoga in Maine. Today, the Brunswick Jung Center offers courses, films, lectures and retreats to its members and to the public, and has a scholarship fund. British author and world-renowned psychiatrist Anthony Stevens will speak at the center on Oct. 12.
