Abstract
The Legislature's Business and Economic Development Committee has voted unanimously to require funeral directors to store cremated remains for at least four years and to notify the person who authorized the cremation by certified mail before disposing of the cremains. The compromise bill would give funeral directors guidance on an issue that Maine law does not address. Funeral directors are in possession of a growing inventory of unclaimed ashes.
