Abstract
The Boys to Men conference, held for the past two years at the University of Southern Maine, will use more inclusive language in its promotional material, making it easier for the Portland City Council to continue sponsoring it. Carol Schiller, a single mother, has said the event effectively excluded mothers, especially single mothers, although she and other women attended the last two events. Conference organizers say the language change makes it clear that women may attend the conference, which never excluded them. It doesn't alter the focus of the conference, which is targeted primarily to middle- and high-school-age boys and "fathers/mentors," who are now referred to simply as "adults."
