Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on Westbrook's recent city council passage of a gay-rights ordinance and the Christian Coalition's vow to overturn it. Since 1993 when Lewiston's gay-rights ordinance was overturned by local referendum, 12 Maine communities have passed such an ordinance on their own, the two most recent being Bangor and now Westbrook. Paul Volle, executive director of the Christian Coalition of Maine, has already begun collecting signatures to put the issue on the November ballot where, Volle hopes, the city's new ordinance will be repealed.
