Abstract
The Saco Drive-In Theatre is the oldest drive-in in the state, and the second-oldest operating drive-in in the world. It opened in July 1939, as The Saco Open Air Auto Theatre, despite limits imposed by Maine's weather and long summer daylight hours. The Saco Drive-In was decorated with polar bears, a Southwestern-theme mural, and Greek-style columns and urns. General manager Richard Roberge is committed to keeping the drive-in open. With comments from patrons, a list of other Maine drive-ins, and a list of other "famous Maine seconds."
