Abstract
"Threads" piece on the increase in the number of Maine designers who are using eco-friendly fabrics. Adam Carofano, co-owner of Awear 4 Hemp in Portland, said his company carries clothing made from tencel, bamboo, organic cotton, and hemp. He notes a high demand for organic clothing. Jay Sproul of Liberty-based Liberty Graphics T-Shirts said they use organic cotton t-shirts to avoid the damage caused by conventional cotton. With additional comments by Mark LaCroix of Interface FABRIC, a commercial furniture company using environmentally-friendly fabrics made in Guilford; and Linda Loudermilk, who sells her designs at the Black Parrot in Rockland.
