Abstract

Judge Frank M. Coffin, 86, of South Portland, the unsuccessful 1960 Maine gubernatorial candidate, rode in a Ford Fairlane convertible with Senator John F. Kennedy from the Portland Airport along Congress St. to the Portland Stadium that year. In a rally that drew 500, Kennedy put aside his prepared speech and delivered what was called one of his finest political speeches.
