Abstract

There are roses named for Portland actress Liv Tyler and the late senator Margaret Chase Smith of Maine and for the towns of Bangor and Belfast. The rose garden at Deering Oaks in Portland is one of some 30 All American Rose Selections Display Gardens in the country. After rose hybridizers put a rose in one of 28 trial gardens for review, the All American Rose Selections chooses its winners, and the roses go to the display gardens for a year before they are made available to the public.
