Abstract
"Outdoors" piece on several nature walks where dogs are allowed, including the Presumpscot River Preserve and Capisic Brook trails in Portland. Willard Beach in South Portland and Ferry Beach in Saco allow dogs during early morning and evening hours. Dogs are permitted on day hikes in parts of Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island, Red Brook Cascade in Bethel, Harris Mountain in Dixville, and Greenville Growler; as well as on more strenuous hikes on Douglas Mountain in Sebago, Baldpate in Andover, Meadow Mountain in Brownfield, and the Appalachian Trail up to, but not including, Baxter State Park. Snowmobile trail maps can often be helpful for hikers.
