Abstract
William Matthew Prior (1806-1873), an itinerant painter born in Bath, is known for primitive portraits such those he painted of Robert and Abigail Lamont in 1829. The pair of paintings recently sold at Cyr Auction Co. for $4,025. A rare double-portrait of two children and their dog, attributed to Prior, was purchased by "Antiques Roadshow's" Leigh Keno for $341,000 from Thomaston Place Auction Galleries in 2003.
