Abstract
"Cuiscene" piece on a tour taken by members of the group, Slow Food Portland, to Damariscotta River oyster farms, which culminated in an oyster tasting. The group is an offshoot of a movement started in Italy in 1986 to strengthen connections between food producers and consumers and to honor traditional recipes and heirloom ingredients. This fall, the group sampled heirloom vegetables, helped harvest grapes at a Maine winery, and enjoyed a harvest dinner in a barn and a meal at a Cape Elizabeth farm where restaurant chefs served dishes with ingredients produced within a radius of 20 miles. With details on upcoming and past events.
