Abstract

An editorial piece on a silver tea service from the World War II cruiser "USS Portland," which the city of Portland gave to the first "USS Portland," launched in May 1932, in Quincy, Mass. Mary Doughty of Yarmouth remembers christening the original ship. The silver is on indefinite loan from the Department of the Navy and is kept in a glass display case in a conference room beside the Portland office of Capt. Jeffrey Monroe, director of the Department of Ports and Transportation.
