Abstract

"Cuiscene" piece on Dan Stevens of Portland, who makes "Captain Mowatt's hot sauces," in honor of Lieutenant Henry Mowat, who burned much of the city during the American Revolution from his fleet of British warships. Stevens named his company "W.O. Hesperus," for Henry Longfellow's poem, "The Wreck of the Hesperus." His self-crafted sauces have garnered more than a dozen first-place awards around the country.
