Abstract
Librarian Nancy Noble describes libraries and special collections within walking distance of her workplace at the Maine Historical Society's Alida Carroll and John Marshall Brown Library. These include the Maine Charitable Mechanic Association library; the Maine Irish Heritage Center library; the Bangor Theological Seminary General Theological Library; the Portland Room at the Portland Public Library; Greater Portland Landmarks' Frances W. Peabody Research Library; Masonic Grand Lodge of Maine Josiah Hayden Drummond Memorial Library; and the Maine College of Art's Joanne Waxman Library. With a mention of Tim Spalding of Portland, creator and founder of LibraryThing, an online reader site designed to help people catalog their books. The First Parish Church of Portland, the Maine Irish Heritage Center, and Bowdoin College are among those using his service.
