Abstract
In 2005, the Arts & Crafts mansion, "Oakhewn," on Kezar lake in Lovell was offered as a donation by the Volk family. The University of Maine accepted the gift, which was a former artists' colony centered on the family of New York portraitist Douglas Volk and his wife, Marion. The contents of the estate raised over $700,000 for the University of Maine Foundation and the property is being leased to Camp Susan Curtis as a summer arts center for their disadvantaged and at-risk campers.
