Abstract

"From the Editor." Captain Jacob Winslow (1827-1902) of Deering Street in Portland used to control the largest sailing fleet on the Atlantic coast, and his flag with a blue W was a common sight in the harbor. The generous businessman commissioned the construction of over a hundred ships in Maine.
