Abstract

“Zeitgeist” piece examines the return of bookstores to Portland, a city that once boasted multiple stores, but lately supported only Longfellow Books. The stalwart independent store now has company: Sherman’s Books & Stationery which recently opened a branch in the city, and Letterpress Books in Portland’s Northgate Plaza. Writers Monica Wood, Susan Conley, Morgan Callan Rogers, and Ron Currie, Jr., talk about how supportive the city and its bookstores have been to them and other authors.
