Abstract

During the early 20th century oysters were plentiful and cheap to eat, but as demand for them and the waters in which they grew became polluted, their numbers declined. Thanks to oyster farming endeavors and cleaner water, oyster have made a comeback. A history of the bivalve in Maine is given. [images]
